A movement, not a moment: Chesa Boudin live in Sonoma

Chesa Boudin’s story is one of politics – restorative, progressive, and deeply personal.

The documentary Beyond Bars: It’s a Movement, Not a Moment traces the life of the former San Francisco district attorney and his parents, Cathy Boudin and David Gilbert, who as founders of the radical Weather Underground, were incarcerated for much of his life.

For years, he visited his parents in prison. These experiences informed his views toward changing the criminal justice system in America.

A staunch progressive, Boudin was elected in 2019 on a platform focused on criminal justice reforms to reduce mass incarceration. He then was the immediate target of a million-dollar recall effort. Boudin only served for two years

Created by Robert Greenwald for Brave New Films, the film parallels Boudin’s political and personal life.

Boudin is a Yale educated attorney who now is Director of the Criminal Law and Justice Center at UC Berkeley. He will lead a discussion and  Q&A session after the screening.

Saturday, February 10, 3pm. $20-$25. Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St. Praxispeace.org/events
