City of Sonoma announces Discretionary Funding initiative

In a proactive move to establish transparency and fairness, the City of Sonoma is proud to announce the launch of its new online Discretionary Funding Application.

This initiative aims to streamline the process for organizations seeking funding from the Council Discretionary Use Funding within the Recreation and Community Services Program. Through this digital platform, the City intends to provide a clear and transparent avenue for non-profit and tax-exempt organizations to request financial support for civic and arts projects or programs, ensuring accountability throughout the process.

Aligned with the City Council’s goal to enhance Parks and Recreation/Community Services, the Discretionary Funding Application reflects the City’s recognition of the ongoing value of funding support for community-driven initiatives. The program’s objectives are multifaceted, aiming to inspire creative and innovative thinking, foster community connections through events and programs, reach local grassroots groups seeking positive community impact, and strengthen partnerships to enhance the quality of life for all residents of Sonoma Valley.

Organizations may request up to a maximum of $3,000 for one project/program per fiscal year, subject to approval by the City Council. The number of discretionary funded projects is contingent upon available funding and is determined during the City’s budget development and adoption process.

The deadline to apply for discretionary funding for the Fiscal Year 2024/2025 is April 26, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Find detailed criteria, limitations, and submit applications online by visiting the dedicated webpage HERE.
