Sonoma School District Trustees Vote to Close Adele Harrison Middle School

At meetings spanning ten hours on Friday, the Trustees of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District unanimously voted to close Adele Harrison Middle School. The school is the one most recently constructed by the district, and abuts Sonoma High School.

The school will be closed at the end of the 2024-25 school year and consolidated with Altimira Middle School located on Arnold Drive for the 2025-26 school year. By January 16, district staff will provide a transition plan.

Notably, Altimira requires extensive earthquake retrofit improvements, and is located close to the Rogers Creek fault, an active seismic fault that has ruptured in the past.

The meeting also included the election of a new Board President. Catarina Landry, and other matters. A complete report on the lengthy meeting is in preparation and will be published online as soon as it is completed.
