A flock of sheep from Perennial Grazing is on the job at Montini Open Space Preserve, grazing to reduce overgrowth and fire danger. The movable pen was first placed next to the Field of Dreams on First Street West (above). The managed grazing — now through June 12 — will next focus on the lower meadow areas next to 4th St. West, and several targeted patches in the upper meadow.
The four-legged crew should reduce fuel loads by more than 80% in grazed areas. The Preserve is owned by the City of Sonoma and managed by Sonoma Ecology Center
