Sonoma and Glen Ellen Markets’ Pink Ribbon Day raises funds for breast cancer

Sonoma celebrities will be on hand to check and bag your groceries at both Sonoma Market and Glen Ellen Village Market as you “shop for a cause” on Thursday, Oct. 29.  From 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., both markets will donate 10 percent of all store sales to support the Sonoma Valley Hospital Mammography Digital Program.
For one day only, shoppers can enjoy being waited on by the likes of Mayor Ken Brown, Police Chief Bret Sackett or Sean Cutting, president of Sonoma Valley Bank. Jennifer Yankovich will take a break from her duties as executive director of the chamber of commerce to ring groceries and music columnist James Marshall Berry will be on hand to ask, “paper or plastic.”
All told, more than 50 local celebrities will pitch in to offer their services to raise money for breast cancer awareness and support. Three House MultiMedia’s own Bill Hammett will even get in on the act to support the cause.
Al Minero, manager of Sonoma Market is excited about Pink Ribbon Day and said, “Events such as this bring the community together, giving a feeling of camaraderie, support, and hope for everyone involved.”
The Carolyn J. Stone Center for Women’s Health & Wellness in Sonoma, provides uninsured and under-insured women access to mammograms regardless of their financial circumstances. The clinic is funded in part by the government and the remainder is dependent upon donations from the community.
“We are thrilled that Sonoma Market is championing the cause of women’s health in Sonoma,” said Carolyn J. Stone. “We have an underserved population in our community that will have greater access to mammography services thanks to efforts such as this.”

Both markets encourage healthy lifestyles and proactive living, and support the community in these goals. During the fundraiser, they will have food demonstrations and plan to give away a bag of groceries each hour.
