Get ready, Weight Loss Boot Camp has arrived in Sonoma and they want YOU. Heather Morgan, a recent transplant to Sonoma, along with her husband and two children, is a nutrition and healthy living coach who specializes in whipping less-than-tone bodies into shape. Morgan has worked in the field for the past seven years and boasts an impressive list of clients which includes more than a few celebrities.
Her first Sonoma-based four-week course is already underway and participants are being indoctrinated with an individualized program based on each person’s needs. Included are meal plans, shopping and food lists like one for stocking a pantry with healthy staples.
“Each person’s metabolic needs are different so we teach people how to eat what’s right for them,” said Morgan. “We also discuss metabolically appropriate exercise, how hormones affect weight loss and how to lose those last stubborn pounds. It’s a pretty comprehensive program.”
To complement the program, Morgan has a new radio show on Sun FM 91.3. Body Talk, Sonoma airs Tuesdays at 2 p.m. and Morgan’s goal for the program is for it to raise community awareness about nutrition while educating and motivating residents of Sonoma to get and stay healthy.
“Empowering people to live a healthy lifestyle; it’s easy when you know how to do it,” said Morgan.
Someone who’s listening is Ken Brown, host of the Morning Show on Sun FM 91.3. Brown has taken up Morgan’s weight loss challenge and is keeping a diary of his experiences (see diary below). We will be running regular excerpts from the diary as he works his way through Boot Camp.
Be sure to check back in The Sun regularly to see how Brown if fairing and tune into Body Talk on KSVY to learn more from Morgan, a dynamic health and lifestyle expert.
Weight Loss Boot Camp meets on Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at Energy Fitness Studio. For more information call 415.314.5705 or e-mail hmorgannutrition@aol.com.

Ken Brown’s Boot Camp report from the front lines
Sunday, Feb. 28:
I can feel the apprehension starting. Monday’s the beginning of Boot Camp and I am definitely paying more attention to what I eat, how fast, what time, how much water I’m not drinking and how much wine I’m pouring down. I completed a form that asked so many questions about my body and I realized how much I don’t pay attention to my aches, pains and tears. Got to bed at my usual 9:30 p.m. time and slept well as usual. Very interesting indeed.
Week of March 1:
The first meeting of the Boot Camp participants was a blast. There is a major benefit in working with a group, both as a weekly support and moreover the positive aspects of peer pressure work well. As the week progressed a new voice has blossomed in my consciousness. It’s a voice that is coming from a new side of me. It’s the voice of caring for myself and of reassurance that I can sustain this chosen path. It’s the voice I need to respect and listen to if I am to be successful in losing weight and far more importantly it’s the voice of creating the changes I seek in this program. My immediate goals are becoming clear. To stop my beginning of the day cigarette and coffee, to stop my end of the day cigarette and “sendoff to dreamland” glass of wine. This Sunday is the first real test, the Oscar Party at Estate.
Week of March 8:
Made it through the Oscar Party fairly unscathed. Weight Loss Boot Camp has a 80/20 rule whereby if you stick to 80 percent of your plan you can have the freedom to have fun with the remaining 20 percent. I think Champagne will take up the bulk of my 20 percent. My new interior voice is becoming stronger. My voice’s key words are promises, deliberateness, discriminating choices and the reality of a soon to be 63-year-old with a 8-year-old daughter who wants to continue to have her dad around throughout childhood. And I want desperately to be here for her. There are tears of realization in this work as well and I am certainly more in touch with those tears than ever before. More to come…
