Sonoma may be the heart of the wine country, but one of its oldest locally owned businesses has been a liquor store. Friday, the storefront at 19 W. Napa Street opens anew as Historic Plaza Liquors under owner Christian Chotkowski.
Owned by Dick and Joey Gregory, the erstwhile Plaza Liquors had occupied the space for years. Now, after a frenzied week of stocking the shelves and coolers, it’s Chotkowski’s turn.
“It will basically be the same store,” he said. The plan is to cut down on wines – “there’s a lot of competition” – and expand the range of upscale liquors, such as single malt Scotch and fine tequilas.
