Altimira principal steps down

Altimira Principal, Sydney Smith will not be returning to fill the role for the 2010-2011 school year. Smith has served as the principal of the school for the last three years.

Over that course of time, Smith has implemented many positive changes at the school including the creation of strategic and intensive intervention programs, an expansion of elective offerings, accelerated English Language Arts and Science offerings, and dramatic increases in the school’s Academic Performance Index as measured by the gains reported at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

A statement from School Superintendent, Louann Carlomagno indicated that at this point in her career, Smith is interested in spending more time with family and is exploring other professional roles in education that may provide her with that opportunity.

Carlomagno will meet with Altimira staff, students and parents to begin the process of hiring a new principal for the school.
