Don Speich, a veteran and award-winning journalist at several California newspapers, has joined the Sonoma Valley Sun as news editor.
Most recently, Speich was a reporter and editor with the Marin Independent Journal. Previously he was a reporter with the Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times
Speich, the author of a book on the impact of Proposition 13 on California education, also worked as a consultant to the state Assembly’s Ways and Means Committee and was briefly state Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction under State Superintendent of Public Instruction Bill Honig.
He is the father of two sons, Will, 12, and Nicholas, 9, who are students in the Sonoma Valley Unified School District.
Speich, a native of Sacramento, recently moved to Sonoma after residing for 16 years in Marin County and San Francisco.
