Sonoma residents will have another place to buy local farm, artisan and artist products on July 10 when the Sonoma Community Center opens a new summer-long Saturday Morning Market.
Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, locals and visitors are invited to stop by the center’s Maloney Garden to purchase flowers, buy some vegetables, or just grab a latte and read the newspaper at a garden picnic table.
David Daniel, coordinator of the market, said the doors are open for customers and vendors alike. “We have a good line-up of local vendors and artists, but we would love to encourage hobbyists who have eggs, honey or produce for sale to join us too,” he said. “We have plenty of room for everyone.”
Among the offerings available at the first market will be the full array of coffee drinks from Barking Dog, waffles with fresh seasonal fruit from Rocket Catering, fresh produce from Lunita Farms and The Patch, and a full selection of seasonal flowers.
Along with meeting adoptable dogs and kittens from Pets’ Lifeline, children are also invited to participate in a morning clay class taught by the center’s resident artist, Jill Oberman.
Featured artists will have affordable mosaics, sculpture, paintings, jewelry, and pottery for sale, and include Bev Prevost, Teddy Elston, Angela Casazza and Susan Heeringa-Pieper among many others.
“We really want to encourage our friends and neighbors to come out and spend some time with each other,” said Kathy Swett, center director.
The center is located at 276 West Napa St. in Sonoma.
“We especially hope to encourage bicyclists to stop by for coffee and then visit the Community Garden over on Seventh St.,” Swett said. “A bike trip between two locations is a great reminder of why it’s so much fun to live in our beautiful town.”
