The Red and White Ball will return to the Plaza in August of 2011 but this year, and in years to come, the party’s organizer and beneficiary will be The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation. The Sonoma Plaza Committee, who has put on the ball for the past two decades, announced that it is officially passing the torch. The SVEF is ready to take the reigns and turn the much-loved event into a fundraiser for local schools.
The Red and White Ball was launched in 1990 by a strong local committee dedicated to enhancing the Plaza. As the years went by the event also lent financial support to numerous local nonprofits. Over the years, the event has raised more than $850,000. This year, the Plaza Foundation Committee decided to find a new home for the Red & White Ball and, after a search process, the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation was selected.
“We have some big shoes to fill,” said Laura Zimmerman, SVEF executive director. “We feel very lucky to be able to work with the founding committee members to carry on the grand tradition of the Red & White Ball on behalf of our local schools.”
SVEF Board President, Susan Reber said, “Our community works together on behalf of our schools in so many ways and places, now we can all join together once a year in the center of our town for a true celebration of great schools in Sonoma.”
The SVEF focuses on enhancing education and student achievement throughout the Valley, working in partnership with the Sonoma Valley Unified School District to bring dynamic innovative programs which would otherwise be out of reach.
