Vacation rentals have been in the valley since it became a Sleepy Hollow for San Francisco. The only difference is that now because of sites like Airbnb, other can obtain income, as easily as anyone else who has been doing it for their Wineries and Wealthy Friends have been for years, without also paying the taxes and just claiming it as Advertising or a Write-off
The Hotels,Motels and Winery’s are taking notice and getting upset because they are losing some revenue. This is true but what these 3 haven’t given consideration is to how their business have created the Good and the Ugly for the residents of Sonoma Valley.
Drunks, DUI’s and Obnocxious Tourists, which have made our lives sometimes difficult. Yes, i realize that we live in a Vacation Desination and it helsp our economy also, but shouldn’t everyone be allowed to make the same money for our economy, as long as they provide a safe and pleasurable rental for their guests and respect for their neighbors?
I doubt, that the wealthy, Wineries and others who have been renting out their homes in the Valley will be willing to pay the additional costs as much as the Airbnb users.
Because when it comes down to it, isn’t what we do in the privacy of our own homes our own business and not the business of the county or nosy neighbors….. Just my two cents and then some
