Seven months after a complex surgery that saved him from paralysis, Sonoma photographer Adrian Hyman presents Dr. Brian Su with a huge panorama photograph for the suregon’s Marin County offices.
The photo is one of three large-format works, including images of Mt. Tamalpais taken from the deck at Su’s home, Hyman installed as a gift of thanks for the successful surgery and dedicated care.
On the mend now, Hyman said he could barely pick up a camera early this year. The problem was identified as a congenital, worsening neck problem that demanded surgery. In a complicated eight-hour operation, Su rebuilt Hyman’s neck, including the permanent insertion of titanium rods. “It’s like Golden Gate Bridge without the tower,” Hyman joked.
He said he has spent the last five months on the photo project, which has helped motivate his rehab. “It’s my way of saying thank you to Dr. Su and his staff,” Hyman said. “I’m very indebted to him for coming out of this so well.”
