Sonoma Valley breakfast aficionados have another option to add to their list – weekend breakfast at the girl & the fig in downtown Sonoma.
The new fig breakfast has a little something for everyone and makes for a great treat for tourists and locals alike.
Enjoy breakfast on the patio, where the sun and shade is perfectly balanced by the seating arrangements and new booth-style seating makes for a lounge atmosphere that is totally breakfast friendly.
Start with the continental breakfast ($15), which is, hands-down, one of the best cheese/charcuterie restaurant buys in town – three large servings of soft cheese from France and Northern California, three types of housemade salumi, a hard-boiled egg, and a carb-side of extremely tasty baguette and butter.
The continental breakfast is a perfect European-style way to start the morning.
The croissant sandwich ($12) gives the egg sandwich at the Sunflower Caffe a run for the money. A fresh, flaky croissant (the closest to a true Parisian style croissant I have had thus far, in Sonoma) is filled with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, house-made bacon and served with a side of crispy breakfast potatoes.
Keep it old school with a house-made bagel with smoked salmon and all the necessities (capers, cream cheese, etc.) ($15). For the gluten-free set, the fig offers decadent ricotta pancakes topped with maple syrup and local strawberries ($16).
The most epic indulgence on the menu is the avocado benedict ($16) which blends a classic breakfast dish with California cuisine and the trend of avocado toast. So good, it gets two paragraphs of coverage.
A large piece of grilled bread is topped with a hearty portion of avocado mixed with bay shrimp, and topped with a poached egg and smoked hollandaise. It is perfect recovery food from a long night, or a great reward for good behavior. Served with a side salad, it is a great plate to share.
Classic morning pick-me ups include 9 types of coffee preparations, house-squeezed orange juice, tea, and of course cocktails – bloody Marys, sparkling wine cocktails, and an intense creation called the “fig’n almond latte” which serious Wine Country enthusiasts must try (hint: grappa + espresso+ amaretto).
the girl & the fig serves breakfast Friday and Saturday from 8 AM-11AM. 110 W. Spain St, Sonoma. 938-3634. thegirlandthefig.com.
