Be on alert for night-time tailgater

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department is issuing this safety alert for the Calistoga Rd. / Porter Creek Rd areas.
The Sheriff’s Department has recently learned of suspicious, nighttime incidents involving a male motorist following female drivers along this rural route. On two occasions, the male was tailgating the women, flashing his lights and trying to get them to pull over. One woman did pull over and the male told her to call 911 to report a motorcycle accident in the area. He then tried to open the woman’s car door and she fled the area.
In a third incident, a white male jumped from a hillside and lay next to the roadway as a female motorist passed by. A suspicious vehicle was parked nearby.
These incidents occurred between Jan. 6 and Feb. 12, between 6:30 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Descriptions of the male are limited, possibly a white male adult. The male covered his face with either a bandana or his turtle-neck sweater.
Descriptions of the suspect vehicle vary from a blue sedan, possibly with a “spoiler,” to a black Suburban-style SUV.
Motorists should avoid stopping for anyone on any rural roadway, especially at night, to avoid being victimized. When in doubt, drive to a well-lit, populated area; like a gas station or shopping center, before calling 911 or sheriff’s dispatch at 707.565.2121.
