Larry Murphy was seriously injured last Wednesday when he was struck while biking on Highway 121 near Stanley Lane in Napa. Murphy, 73, was struck by a pickup truck that was travelling at approximately 45 mph.
The former owner of Murphy’s Pub is suffering from a pelvis broken in three places, along with bruises and “a serious case of road rash,” said Bob Smith, current proprietor of the pub. He is expected to make a full recovery. Smith and family members are hopeful he’ll be released from the hospital sometime in the next week, with a two- to four-month period of convalescence to follow.
Murphy, an avid bike rider, also served as Mayor of Sonoma and is a former art teacher and accomplished watercolor artist. Some of his original artwork can be found displayed in the pub. According to Smith, Murphy is pleased that he has more time to devote to painting now that he’s retired.
