Prestwood School held its Mother-Son Movie Night at the Sebastiani Theatre on Monday. The second annual event is a fundraiser for the theatre, allowing the school to give back to a community that stands behind education in so many ways.
This year’s event raised $1,200 that will be donated to the theatre. Last year, the movie night raised $998 that the Rhoten family used to buy a new popcorn machine, now installed in the lobby.
Organizer Amee Scott, the mother of four boys, said in her before-movie speech that the theatre is a treasured piece of Sonoma that Prestwood School is proud to help support.
“There are so few towns that have a theatre this cute,” said Scott. “And it’s great to see all the moms come with their sons to enjoy an evening out together.”
Roger Rhoten took the stage to do a little magic just prior to the main event, the showing of the movie “Richie Rich” starring Macaulay Culkin. More than one hundred and fifty moms and sons watched the movie together while feasting on hotdogs, popcorn and drinks.
Scott hopes to keep the tradition going as long as the theatre will have them. “It’s a really fun night for everyone involved. And it’s a great feeling to be able to give something back,” said Scott.
