Scott Gregerson is resigning as a vice president at Sonoma Valley Hospital.
Gregerson, who serves as the hospital’s spokesman, was hired in June 2004 by former hospital CEO Robert Kowal.
The hospital board in January signed a separation agreement with Kowal, who came under criticism for such things as championing Measure C, the failed 2006 ballot proposal to build a new $148 million hospital on a Fifth Street West hayfield owned by the Leveroni family, an unwilling seller.
But Gregerson said he was leaving for personal reasons, including that his wife has to commute to her job in San Francisco, and because he’d like to learn new things by working at a larger hospital.
“It was a huge privilege for me to work with Bob Kowal, but I have enormous respect for Carl (Gerlach), too,” he said, referring to Kowal’s replacement.
“I think it may be time for someone else to come in and carry the flag forward,” said Gregerson, who regularly works 70-hour weeks. “They need somebody who can give this everything. The hospital deserves it and the community deserves it. The hospital’s employees do just a phenomenal job caring for this community.”
Gregerson said he has a few offers to work as a vice president at larger hospitals. Gregerson earns $170,000 annually.
