Sonoma native Fran Meininger was tapped as the new executive director of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation this week, following an extensive national search. Meininger directed the Valley of the Moon Boys & Girls Club from 1989 through 2000, facilitating its expansion from a small basement operation to its current 23,000-square-foot facility. Leaving in 2000 to start her own consulting firm, she became a management analyst for the City of Sonoma/Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department in 2001, and eventually assisted in contract negotiations for local police and the county sheriff’s department. Returning to the nonprofit sector is a welcome change for Meininger. “I’m thrilled and excited to be chosen and to be part of the nonprofit community in Sonoma once more,” Meininger said. The foundation underwrites numerous education-related programs in Sonoma Valley.
