The Sonoma Dragons were on fire Friday night, as they smoked visiting Montgomery at Arnold Field in an action-packed home game.
With two big plays in the first half that gave Sonoma Valley High School a 10-0 lead at halftime, the Dragons employed a very tough defense the rest of the night. With only 1:30 remaining, the score was 10-3. There was jubilation on the Montgomery sidelines at the prospect of a seven-point gain at the end of the game, but Sonoma defensive end Matt Watson managed to sack the Montgomery quarterback for a nine-point lead. Ultimately, the No. 5 Dragons held on for a 12-3 victory over the No. 3 Vikings.
It was the first time Sonoma had beaten the Vikings since 1999.
