Scientology mission seeks site on Broadway

Members of the Ballet Folkloric Nezahualcoyotl get ready for their performance on stage at Sunday’s Mexican Independence day celebration, where record attendance was reported.

The Sonoma City Planning Commission at its meeting last Thursday considered a permit application by Donna Barton to conduct religious ceremonies in a commercial building located at 725 Broadway. Barton has started a Sonoma Mission for the Church of Scientology and expects up to 15 people to attend, from 7-9 pm on weekdays and on Saturday mornings. While the discussion ranged from how to fill out City paperwork to matters of constitutional protection, ultimately the matter was continued to a subsequent meeting, to allow Barton to address, among other things, parking requirements.
