Cohn Music Festival a blast from the past

Back in the ‘80s, fans of Huey Lewis & The News rose to their feet when the Tower of Power horn section joined the band on stage to rock whatever joint they were playing.
Last weekend, most of those same musicians rocked a different venue, the huge amphitheater at the B.R. Cohn winery in Glen Ellen. Every year for the past 22 years, Cohn has gathered musicians of all levels for his charity concerts, which benefit both local and national nonprofits, including the National Veterans Foundation, for which the concerts have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
And once again, perennial headliners the Doobie Brothers performed, closing their set with a sure-fire crowd-pleaser, “Listen to the Music.”
Fans of music and wine who could not get tickets to last weekend’s music fest may be happy to know that Bruce Cohn is about to build an even larger amphitheater, one that can seat 4,000 people and will be ready in time for next year’s Fall Music Classic.
