Maggie Bafalon, a local realtor and community volunteer, has joined the board of directors of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation.
Bafalon holds a B.A. in Music Education and Vocal Performing Music from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She began her career as a teacher in a junior high school choral music program in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Since moving to Sonoma Valley in 2006, she has devoted her energy for the benefit of numerous community organizations including the Sonoma Valley Hospital Women’s Health Initiative, Sonoma Valley Chorale and the WillMar Center for Bereaved Children. “She brings a unique perspective to our organization because of her experience as an educator and as a business woman,” said Kevin Jaggie, president of the board of Sonoma Valley Education Foundation. “We are really fortunate to attract someone with her skill set to our board.”
Sonoma Valley Education Foundation sponsors programs that support educational excellence in the Sonoma Valley public schools. The foundation currently has three core programs in district schools: Teacher Support Network, which places volunteers in high school classrooms; Visual Thinking Strategies, a program that uses fine art images to build vocabulary and literacy and teach critical thinking; and MERIT, a professional development program that helps teachers gain technology skills so they can integrate technology in the classroom.
