Early morning accident on Highway 121 claims the life of one man, five horses

Mark Stephen Trupiano, 46, of Santa Rosa was killed early Wednesday morning when the car he was driving struck a group of five horses.
Trupiano was pronounced dead at the accident scene, as were two of the horses. The other three horses sustained major injuries and had to be euthanized by CHP officers.
Trupiano’s Mitsubishi Galant was traveling northbound on 121 when he encountered the horses at 5:15 a.m. According to Officer Jaret Paulson, there were no witnesses to the accident. However, Napa CHP will exhaust leads as well as look into the driver’s actions prior to the crash. At this time, there is no evidence that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, but CHP will continue to investigate. They will also ascertain to whom the horses belonged and why they were in the road.
