Man killed in early morning crash in Kenwood

Rain-slicked Highway 12 in Kenwood claimed the life of a man at 6:15 am Monday. Bonifacio Gonzalez Bolanos, 36, was driving a 1990 Honda Accord eastbound on Highway 12, near Dunbar Road.
According to CHP officer Jon Sloat, Bolanos drifted to the right then, as he tried to regain control of the car, went into a spin and struck an oncoming car on its driver’s side. The force of the crash tore the Honda in half and killed Bolanos.
The other driver, Taylor Thomas, 31, of Sonoma, was traveling westbound in his 2009 Subaru wagon when the collision occurred. Thomas suffered minor scrapes and complained of pain in his head, neck, chest and legs after the accident. Both cars were travelling at about 50-55 mph at the time of the crash.
Bolanos has been living with a nephew in Healdsburg and police believe he recently emigrated from Mexico, as he did not possess a California driver’s license. Officers have been in contact with the nephew to determine whether Bolanos had other family in the area and to ascertain how to contact relatives in Mexico.
Highway 12 was closed for one and a half hours after the accident.
