Got crab?

If you’ve never been to the Sonoma Valley High School Booster Club’s annual Crab Feed dinner, now’s the time to go. Not only is the crab fresh, the bread hot and the wine flowing, the Boosters need your help more than ever.

Not relegated to simply funding high school sports, the Boosters dole out money to each and every club and extracurricular entity at the high school. Is your son, Sam, a budding musician? Then his after school program is staying afloat thanks to Boosters. Little Suzi interested in art? Those watercolors she’s dabbling in are again, courtesy of Boosters donations. From the No Name Café to the Ag program and everything in between, almost every non-curricular activity you can imagine receives support from the Boosters.

And now, the Boosters need your support. With an annual operating budget of $200,000, the Club is this year experiencing a $35,000 shortfall.

“Memberships and donations are down and we’re not realizing the same revenue and advance ticket sales from events like the Valley of the Moon Dilettante Enological Society (VOMDES) and the Crab Feed,” said Wendy Swanson, co-president of the Boosters with James Grossi.

Grossi is quick to point out that, as a volunteer organization, the Boosters has no overhead so 100 percent of the donations and membership dollars they receive go straight to students. “At last year’s crab feed we raised $45,000. We’re hoping to do better than that this year to make up for our budget shortfall,” said Grossi. “If we don’t raise the money, we’ll need to make some difficult decisions about funding cuts. We don’t want to have to do that.”

By supporting Boosters, community members and parents help provide enrichment for students at the high school level be it football, Future Farmers of America, yearbook club or much, much more.

The Crab Feed will be held Saturday, February 6 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Cline Cellars. Tickets to the event are $80 each and include all you can eat crab, salad, pasta and rolls. The Rich Little Band will perform and there will be both a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. A downloadable form for tickets is available on the high school web site at sonomavalleyhigh.org.
