An elderly couple was found dead in their Sonoma apartment Wednesday afternoon in what police believe to be a murder-suicide. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

Authorities were called to the Guadalupe Drive complex by a woman who was concerned that she had not seen the couple in several days. Their car was there, she said, but they did not answer the door.

According to the Sonoma Police report, deputies and fire personnel entered the residence where they found the bodies of the man and woman in their bedroom.

Based upon information regarding the couple’s health, coupled with notes and letters located inside the apartment, the preliminary investigation leads detectives to believe it may have been a murder-suicide, the report said.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Investigation Unit, along with the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, is investigating the deaths.
