Superintendent Louann Carlomagno and the Sonoma Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees announced the selection of Will Deeths as principal of Altimira Middle School, pending formal approval at the June 15 board beeting.
Deeths grew up in Marin County and received a degree in history at UC Davis. He completed his teaching credential at Sonoma State University and actually had his first paying teaching job as a substitute teacher at Altimira Middle School. He spent from 2000-2003 teaching history and leadership at Petaluma Junior High School and during this time received his Administrative Credential and Masters Degree.
In 2004, Mr. Deeths was hired as a full time Assistant Principal at Petaluma High School. After two years at Petaluma High School, Deeths returned to the middle school level, working as Assistant Principal at the newly built Kenilworth Junior High School, a California Green School. In his four years at Kenilworth, Deeths worked closely to help raise the achievement levels of the students in special education, science and history, aided in collaboration by helping to bring professional learning communities to the school and brought the resources of the school and community together to fundraise for technology and create 21st century classrooms throughout the campus.
According to Carlomagno, Deeths is overjoyed at the opportunity to return to Sonoma Valley and have his career come “full circle.” He is especially excited that this opportunity is at Altimira Middle School. He and his family; wife Tawnya and son William (15 months), will be at the June 15 school board meeting at the Community Meeting Room, 177 First Street West, Sonoma.
