Last chance to vote in ‘Historic’ election

The deadline to vote for Sonoma as America’s favorite historic destination is Tuesday, March 15. The town is one of 2011 Dozen Distinctive Destinations as named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

An online voting contest will determine the year’s official Fan Favorite. Cast your vote at: PreservationNation.org/ddd.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation annually selects communities across the country that offer cultural and recreational experiences different from those found at typical vacation spots.

The title of Distinctive Destination is presented to towns that offer an authentic visitor experience by combining dynamic downtowns, cultural diversity, attractive architecture, cultural landscapes and a strong commitment to historic preservation, sustainability and revitalization. In each community, residents have taken forceful action to protect their town’s character and sense of place.

Stephanie Meeks, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, said, “Visitors will discover that world-class wine is not the only draw to Sonoma, which also offers a fascinating mix of historic and cultural experiences spanning several centuries.”

Sonoma, nominated by the Blue Wing Adobe Preservation Committee, was selected for its unique role in American history dating back to the early 19th century, its superior green ethic and its small-town ambiance.
