New owner for Jack London Village

Jack London Village, a historic Glen Ellen structure home to restaurants, shops and offices, has been sold for $1.75 million to the owner of a South Bay property management firm.

Previous owner Bernard MacElhenny listed the 3.5-acre property for $2.95 million last summer after a dispute with Westamerica Bank. Stephen Coates, a partner in the firm Coates & Sowards, bought the property from Westamerica in a deal that closed in late July.

Coates paid an additional $375,000 for the adjacent property, now used as the main parking lot.

The original structures at what is now 14301 Arnold Drive dates back to the 1850’s. Once a mill powered by a waterwheel, the building served as a distillery and winery for Joshua Chauvet. The Pagani family took over in 1913 and ran its winery there into the 1960’s. The structure began its transformation to a shopping center when developers bough the property in 1969.

Glen Ellen Village has about approximately 23,000 square feet of retail space. Current tenants include a tasting room, art gallery and the restaurants Yeti, Olive & Vine and the recently reopened Grist Mill. It also is home to historical exhibits.
