Gingerbread House contest winners

What began as a friendly challenge from Ramona Nicholson of Nicholson Ranch to fellow Sonoma Valley wineries in 2005 is now a holiday tradition – The Sonoma Valley Gingerbread Winery Contest.

This year B.R. Cohn Winery captured the top spot, with Muscardini Cellars coming in Second, and defending champion Deerfield Ranch Winery finishing in third place.

The confectionary creations were on display in each winery tasting room through the holidays. The contest was organized by the Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Alliance, which tabulated the public votes.

Of the winning entry, Dan Cohn said, “Our historic Picholine olive grove, old vine Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard & rock and roll roots, are all highlighted in our ‘tree gingerbread house.”

muscoAs for the second place effort, Michael Muscardini said, “We chose to celebrate our deep Sonoma Valley roots by replicating the winery that sits in what was once the Kenwood School house, dating back to the 1800s.”
