Four “awesome educators” and a local school have received prestigious honors an recognition, said a proud Louann Carlomagno, superintendent of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District

Nominees for the 2015 Classified School Employee of the Year, coordinated by the California Department of Education, include: Cyndi Potter (Human Resource Technician), Tarah Neubacher Douglas (Media Specialist, El Verano) and County Finalist, Michele Echeverria (Kitchen Manger, Adele Harrison).

Receiving a nomination for this prestigious award from supervisors and co-workers is an honor and distinction that is enjoyed by very few people, Louann Carlomagno. “For that reason, SVUSD gratefully recognizes and congratulate our nominees.

All three “awesome educators” will also be recognized at a SVUSD barbecue on May 21.

Meanwhile, Alta Mira Principal Will Deeths will be honored by Sonoma State University and the School of Education with a Circle of Excellence Award for 2015.  Faculty from the Single Subject Credential Program selected Will to honor his work as an educator and school leader.  “The selection is based on his collaborative work supporting beginning teachers and the many contributions he has made to his students and community,” Carlomagno said.

Principal Deeths will be publicly recognized at the annual School of Education Recognition and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 at Sonoma State University.

Carlomagno said she was also thrilled to announce that  El Verano School has been selected as the recipient of the 28th Annual Jack London Award for Educational Innovation 2015 in the Early/Elementary Education category.

The selection was based on El Verano School’s comprehensive application and on the observations made by Sonoma State University reviewers who visited the school site.

Goals of the Jack London Award Program are to recognize and publicize outstanding innovative programs and the individuals responsible for them, and to project a positive image of public education.

El Verano School will be publicly recognized at the annual School of Education Recognition and Awards Ceremony on May 6 at SSU.
