Weekend Warrior picks: 4/8

Posted on April 8, 2016 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The weather might be a bit moody this weekend but don’t let that keep you from enjoying beautiful Spring in Sonoma Valley. Here are my weekend warrior picks for food and drink events this weekend.

Friday, April 8

strawberrys

Gorge on Watmaugh strawberries

Yup, the best strawberries in Sonoma Valley are available now at Watmaugh and Arnold Drive. The little fruit stand opened up this week peddling small and large baskets of strawberries to eager residents.

While you could probably do something more exciting this evening, I suggest you get your strawberry loving self to Watmaugh, cash in hand, and buy a bunch of strawberries. Next, go home, make some whipped cream (check out my technique on how to make whipped cream easily in a mason jar) and eat yourself into a strawberry coma. I’ve been pairing my strawberries and cream with JCB French Sparkling N°69 or Amista Vineyards Sparkling Syrah.

Enjoy bubbles and blooms at Gloria Ferrer

Gloria Ferrer will be hosting the first Bubbles & Blooms event at their Carneros winery. The event will bring garden and flower lovers from throughout the country to participate in workshops, view demos, enjoy amazing food and sparkling wine, live music and more. I’ll be there with dirt under my nails and bubbles in my glass. Read my preview of the event here.

Winemaker’s dinner with Arista Winery

Arista Winery, located in Russian River Valley, will be making the trek down to Sonoma for a winemaker’s dinner at Harvest Moon. This is the first of many winemaker dinners at the Plaza-based restaurant. The four-course meal, prepared by Chef/Owner Nick Demerest, will be paired with wines, which means it will most likely be Pinot Noir-centric, since Arista is quite known for their bold Pinots.

The entire gang will be there, including Arista Winery’s winery principal, winemaker, and their estate sommelier, as well as Harvest Moon’s own sommelier Glenda Seagraves. Tickets are $85 each (tax and gratuity is not included, you’ve been warned!) and can be purchased by calling (707) 933-8160. harvestmooncafesonoma.com
