Sonoma County is in the process of forming an official panel to advise the Board of Directors on issues affecting El Verano, Boyes Hot Springs, Fetters Hot Springs and Agua Caliente. Called a Municipal Advisory Council, the panel would give the Springs a level of representation it does not now have. The local MAC is the topic of a public meeting with Supervisor Susan Gorin on Wednesday, October 3, 6:30 p.m., hosted by the Springs Community Alliance. Location: El Verano School, 18606 Riverside Drive.
So, what is a Municipal Advisory Council and why should you care?
A MAC is composed of a group of local residents and business owners who advise and advocate to the Board of Supervisors on a variety of issues that affect residents, businesses and families.(Unlike incorporated towns like Sonoma, the Springs does not have its own City Council.)So having a MAC will allow Springs residents to weigh in on things like public health, safety, welfare, public works; transportation, land use, planning and development issues referred by other entities, such as the Sonoma Valley Citizen’s Advisory Commission; other community projects, fairs and festivals as well as other topics referred by the District Supervisor.Gorin will also address how representatives to the council are chosen and how long they would serve. At the meeting, childcare will be provided and children will be served pizza and shown a family movie.Photo collage by Michael Acker
A version of self-rule for the Springs?
