It’s still summer at the Library

Posted on July 24, 2019 by Sonoma Valley Sun

There’s still fun to be had (and air conditioning to enjoy) at the Sonoma Valley Library.

The free Lego Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m., lego units included. For ages 5-12.

On Tuesday, July 23, a Self-Defense for Teens class will teach boundary setting, personal safety and physical self-defense skills. This class is limited to 15 students. 4 p.m.

Kids are invited to “Get into Character” from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 24. There will be five activity stations where they will put on a stage face, choose a costume, create sound effects, pop into the picture using a green screen and recite a mini-monologue.

With the 11 a.m. class Masks & Mime on Wednesday, July 31, Eliot Fintushel will explore the art of body language through mime illusions, creating characters via masks, and stage clowning, with audience participation.

For adults, the library’s Distinguished Speaker Series will feature New York Times bestselling author Firoozeh Dumas on Saturday, August 3, at 2 p.m. Dumas grew up listening to her father, a former Fulbright Scholar, recount the many colorful stories of his life in both Iran and America. In 2001, with no prior writing experience, she decided to write her stories as a gift for her two children. Her book, Funny in Farsi, was a finalist for the PEN/USA award in 2004 and a finalist in 2005 for an Audie Award for best audio book.

Events are free, but advance registration advised at 755 West Napa St. or Sonomalibrary.org/locations/sonoma-valley-regional-library.
