A different kind of Fourth

A thoughtful and emotional Fourth of July event in Maxwell Park opened with an invocation by Pomo dancers on, as noted, stolen lands. Speakers included Native American Joe Webber, Dr. Ron López, Chair of Latino Studies at SSU, local activist Misty Browning, BLM Student Activist Jasmine Williams.

Aztec dancers invoked the four directions. Water and face masks were handed out by organizers, and attendees could take advantage of a Covid-19 testing station and a voter registration table.
