The Valley of the Moon Water District (VOMWD) will delay for six months a scheduled rate increase that was to go into effect on July 1. Instead, in deference to the economic perils of Covid-19, the hike will take effect on January 1, 2021.
The agency serves the Valley outside of the Sonoma city limits.
In a statement released Friday, the VOMWD said its Board had approved the delay to help our customers experiencing job losses and uncertainty due to COVID 19.
“Although rate increases are necessary over time, VOMWD Board and Staff have been able to find savings and have delayed some capital projects to enable the rate holiday without compromising our mission of providing reliable, safe, high-quality drinking water at an affordable price.”
The District said it has learned many lessons since the 2017 firestorm to increase system resiliency and is fully prepared for any PG&E outages during this fire season.
“VOMWD is committed to supporting our customers with high-quality drinking water through any disaster while also committed keeping rates as low as possible and to reducing customer burdens when catastrophe strikes.”
