A ‘Resilience Playbook’ to deal with climate change

The region’s adaptation to climate risks in equitable and innovative ways demands, says the Greenbelt Alliance, a new approach. A new set of guidelines and strategies. A new Resilience Playbook.

The nonprofit has released its most comprehensive climate adaptation tool to date—the Resilience Playbook

The digital resource addresses the region’s overlapping environmental, economic, and social challenges.

“With the Resilience Playbook, we are leveraging Greenbelt Alliance’s 60 years of expertise in land-use policy advocacy and regional collaboration to offer local leaders a path to expedite climate action in the Bay Area,” said Greenbelt Alliance’s Executive Director, Amanda Brown-Stevens.

The solutions that the Playbook puts forward, she said  “are aimed at accelerating the region’s adaptation to climate risks in equitable and innovative ways, providing a holistic approach to the housing, climate, and social inequity crises.”

Climate hazards are hitting some communities harder than others.

“It’s essential that we develop solutions that strengthen communities in more equitable ways,” said Zoe Siegel, Greenbelt Alliance’s Director of Climate Resilience and lead author of the Resilience Playbook. “That means advancing climate solutions that also increase housing supply, support a just transition away from fossil fuels towards green jobs, and pursue environmental justice to ensure that we are prioritizing the resilience of the most vulnerable communities. The Resilience Playbook does exactly that.”

The Playbook is a resource for local government, community-based organizations, and individuals who wish to learn more about climate policies. Find out more.
