Sonoma comes to the aid of its sister city in Ukraine

Posted on March 21, 2022 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Donations to aid the citizens of the besieged Ukrainian city of Kaniv, an effort organized by the Sonoma Sister Cities Association, have topped $38,000.

The drive on behalf of Sonoma’s sister city is online now.

Sherri Ferris, SSCA board member, said the link is the best, most efficient and trustworthy way to get your generous donations to where they are most needed.

Ferris met with Dmytro Kushneruk, Consul General of Ukraine, who made a public appearance in Sonoma last week.

The Consul has direct contact with the mayor and citizens of Kaniv, Ferris said, and will facilitate a bank transfer directly to the city to support humanitarian efforts there.

The sister-city relationship was formed in 1987, when Ukraine was a Soviet state.

  1. Sonoma does many good things and this is one of them. Several years ago I attended an event in Sonoma hosted by our local representative of Kniv. She had been there. I purchased several items made by the people of Kniv. I treasure them more now. I am half Ukrainian. My mother took me to Ukrainian picknics and weddings. She spoke Ukrainian with her mother. They are wonderful people.
