Maite Iturri honored with Rotary humanitarian award

For her many contributions to Sonoma Valley, Maite Iturri has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley.

“Maite’s initiatives and on-going work have directly benefited children and families here in Sonoma for over 25 years,” said Club President Scott Murray. 

Iturri co-founded Comida Para Todos – Food for All in 2020 to support the Springs community during the Covid-19 pandemic. The organization today continues to provide food and other necessary items to families in need in the Springs and beyond. 

Iturri was nominated for the award by long-time Rotarian and former club president David Meeks. Presenting the award to her on January 4, Meeks said, “Service above self is not just a slogan for Maite; she lives it.”

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition was created in 1957 and is named after the founder of Rotary International. The Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley awards Paul Harris Fellows to celebrate local leaders who demonstrate by their actions a commitment to community service.

“Being recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow is a great honor,” Iturri said. “Harris founded the Rotary Club as a humanitarian organization and that makes this recognition all the more special.”

“The people I work with in this Valley deserve this recognition, and I look forward to sharing it with them.” Iturri added. “The Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley is dedicated to community service and its long-standing tradition is a shining light in our Valley. I was completely surprised by the recognition and was left speechless. Thank you, Rotary!”
