Sun on the Street: What’s your favorite quote?

Question: What is your favorite quote?

Andy, Sonoma

I was just reading this quote about the Hobbits from “Lord of the Rings”. I love this one where he [Tolkien] talks about how they “love peace, quiet, and good-tilled earth”. And that feels like where we live in Sonoma. There is quiet but we like to have fun. We love gardening and living out in nature.

From Thich Nhat Hanh. Do you know Thich Nhat Hanh, the monk?  A lot of people would know him. He said that you “just live in the present. The future hasn’t come. So, live in the moment”. That is what I learned from him. Peace. Happy. Live with the peace inside of you. I am from the Buddhist. I love what he teaches; his message is that.

The one that comes to mind that I like a lot is: “Veni, Vidi, Vici”. It translates to “I came, I saw, I conquered”. Now even more so as it reminds me of Napoleon and Paris. Finally, after all these years, I got to see the Eiffel Tower. I came, I saw, and I conquered a bucket list dream.

Christian, Sonoma:

My favorite quote is “Say Less and Do More”. I feel a lot of people get caught up in talking about what they want to do in life but they find themselves just never doing anything. So, I just say let actions speak for themselves and let that take its course. Instead of just talking, make it happen. That is one of my favorite sayings and what I live by.

Cheryl, Sacramento:

“You cannot change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust your sails”. I love this quote because I love sailing. It resonates because it seems that you need to adjust when you go in one direction. I think it is appropriate because if you stay in one place and don’t make any changes, you might not get to where you are going or it might be more difficult. So, you need to make adjustments.

Jeannette, Sonoma:

My favorite quote is by Mark Twain: “I never let my schooling interfere with my education.”  I got it when I went to a crazy party in Mill Valley. They had balloons all over the ceiling with scrolls attached to each one and that is the one I picked. It pertains because I focus more on life vs. schooling. It works for me.
