On Friday, the ownership of Monday Bakery announced that their locations in Napa and Sonoma will be closing, indefinitely. A fire at their baking facility appears to have prompted the decision.
Monday Bakery opened earlier this year after an extensive remodel of what had been a women’s clothing store on West Napa Street. The renovation included the restoration of the patio garden area at the rear of the store. Growing in popularity, Monday Bakery appeared welcome by Sonoma locals. Their baked good were brought in from their kitchen facility; no baking took place at the Napa Street location.
An announcement on Facebook read as follows:
“Running a small business is no easy feat. It’s not always as we say, “Love & Cookies”!
It takes grit, sleepless nights, determination and hard work and even then, with the perfect concoction of ingredients it still doesn’t bake up quite the way you imagined.
In all honesty, we were hoping to make this announcement in a few weeks and five the community more time to visit and say their goodbyes, but the recent fire changed that a bit and we will be serving our last beverage and pastry on Sunday, August 25.
We will be open at both locations from 8-12 Friday-Sunday and then cloing indefinitely thereafter.
It has been an honor and privilege to provide pastries and the BEST coffee to the Napa and Sonoma Communities.
Sally will be jumping on social Sunday for one final goodbye, and for now come visit and give our staff some love.”
I remember the first time I visited the Napa store and thought sonoma could use a wonderful bakery like this. I am so sad and deeply emotional about how the owner is dealing with this huge part of her life just ending. Times are changing and small business is stuggling to stay afloat in our country even without setbacks like a fire. I wish these fokes new beginnings of peace and prosparity. The owner/baker here is so talented and they cant take that away from her. You go girl!!!! you got this.
