Juan Hernandez is stepping down as executive director of La Luz Center, ending eight formative years at the Springs-based nonprofit.
“I have so much gratitude for the years I’ve spent at La Luz Center,” Hernandez said. “The organization is stronger than ever, both programmatically and financially. I know it will continue to create opportunities and make an impact on the Latinx community in the Springs and beyond.”
His tenure included building a new community center for the 35-year-old advocacy organization, and stepping up fundraising efforts to provide programs for Sonoma Valley’s immigrant community. La Luz coordinated relief donations after the 2017 wildfires, and is the primary provider for the county’s Covid-related services in the Springs.
Hernandez is leaving to launch a community development financial institution that will provide lending and investments for Latinx small businesses.
La Luz has initiated a formal search for a new executive director. Hernandez will continue to lead the organization through the transition period.
La Luz Center is an advocacy nonprofit serving the Sonoma Valley community since 1985. It is committed to strengthening the community through Family Services, Economic Advancement, and Community Engagement. La Luz programs and services are available to all in need, with Latinx families representing its largest client population.
