Five-car pile-up closes Napa Road at Broadway on Wednesday morning

Napa Highway Patrol officers responded to an 8 a.m. crash on Wednesday at the intersections of Napa Road and Broadway.

The accident occurred when a woman, driving a white four-door sedan and eastbound on Napa Road, attempted to make a left hand turn into the northbound lanes of Broadway.  The sedan made the turn directly in front of an oncoming E.K. Excavating dump truck, driven by Rick Strand of Sonoma.

According to Napa Highway Patrol Officer Wayne Bernard, the sedan cut off the dump truck causing it to lose control and sideswipe an oncoming Range Rover.  The dump truck then careened along Napa Road, crossed into the eastbound lanes and crashed through a series of cement barriers at the edge of the Broadway Market parking lot.  The dump truck demolished a car and a truck parked in the lot before coming to rest.

The driver of the sedan was transported to Sonoma Valley Hospital for observation.  The driver of the dump truck was unhurt as was the driver of the Range Rover.

Hazmat crews were on hand to clean up slipped diesel fuel.
