Sun on the Street: Your scariest thing ever

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

Karin, Sonoma

Probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done was have children. Raising them in a world where you want them to be socially conscious and contribute to the community is a big responsibility. I have a 21-year-old daughter and 20-year-old twins. I am very proud of them.

Alan Hughes, Sonoma

I grew up in Wales. I used to climb the castle walls when I was a child. The ledges were dilapidated so I climbed them without thinking about how to get back down. I also used to love to climb trees when I was younger. I climbed to the top of every tree that I could find. Once the branches were breaking as I was going up but I kept going. I just did it. It’s like a metaphor in life. You just keep going.

Ed Clay, Sonoma

I climbed Mt. Shasta, twenty years ago, or less. Standing at the summit at 7:30am, it was great. Gorgeous, beautiful sunny morning. You could see for miles. I was doing something unfamiliar; scary. I was proud of myself.

Brian, San Francisco

One of the scariest things I have ever done was go up a gondola in Hong Kong. Up to the Peak. Real steep. I didn’t look the whole way down. But I did it!

Carol Anderson, Sonoma

Quite a few years ago, I went parasailing in Mexico. I don’t like heights and I was afraid. I had reason to be afraid because I ended up scraping my legs against the tops of the trees because they did not pull me up high enough. I will never do it again. It was beautiful but I was too scared to think about it.
