Man, company truck vanish from Sonoma

The search continues for an exterminator who disappeared in his company truck after a job in Sonoma Wednesday morning.

Bryan Scobey, 35, was last seen driving a 2008 GMC Canyon truck with Hitmen Termite Company logos. Both went missing about 8:30 a.m. after Scobey’s first appointment, near Burndale Road and Fremont Drive. A company GPS system tracked the vehicle to that location, but an exhaustive police and helicopter search of the area came up empty.

Scobey is described as an olive-skinned Caucasian, six feet, about 230 pounds, brown eyes, with a shaved head and groomed goatee.

Scobey, of Santa Rosa, has a wife and three kids. On Sunday, a group of family friends gathered to make and post ‘Missing’ fliers. “He’s not the type of guy to up and leave his family,” a friend told The Sun. “He’s out there somewhere. We’re all just hoping for the best.”

Police were told that Scobey’s cell phone had been turned off at 8:30 a.m. on the day he disappeared. Additionally, the company gas card assigned to Scobey was used at 10:16 that morning on Santa Rosa Avenue in Santa Rosa.

Scobey’s boss and his wife both reported him missing about 5:30 p.m. The resulting four-hour search, directed by the GPS signal, employed six officers on foot and the Sheriff’s Department Henry-1 helicopter, complete with thermal imaging.

Sgt. Darin Daughtery said police checked buildings and barns for any sign of the vehicle, but found none. “We’re not going to miss a truck,” he said.

Despite the visual confirmation, the GPS device from the truck continued to transmit signals from that area. Police said they lacked information from the GPS company as to how that would be possible, other than the unit was malfunctioning or it had been removed.

The Hitmen work truck has a ladder rack with a bright orange ladder, an aluminum tool box and company logos. The California license plate number is 8R05342
