Hardwood flooring, distinctive carpets and area rugs have stepped up to center stage as today’s homeowners are realizing that’s what underfoot can be more important than what’s overhead. Distinctive textures and patterns are now making flooring and carpeting an integral element of an overall interior design scheme. Which makes Sonoma’s Carneros Flooring a valuable source for local interior designers, contractors and do-it-yourselfers.
In business since March, Carneros Flooring has already established a reputation for quality floor covering. “I think we stock the widest variety of floor coverings available in Sonoma Valley, with styles ranging from conventional to very fashionable,” said owner John Charvat.
With over 25 years of floor covering experience, spanning manufacturing to retail, Charvat takes pride in offering a unique level of personal service. “Some customers know exactly what they want. That’s fine; I’ll still offer a free home estimate and make sure the installation comes off without a hitch,” he said. “Other customers need guidance. If a particular hardwood product or unique carpeting catches their eye, I have the experience to offer practical considerations. For example; are they thinking of doing the installation themselves – some products are better for the do-it-yourselfer than others – and what about up-keep? This is what sets me apart; I have the experience to make sure the customer is getting something that will not only look good in their home but is right for their specific needs.”
Charvat stocks his shop with the latest floor coverings, including carpets produced from recycled materials or renewable resources such as wool, jute, and sisal, as well as hardwood flooring made from sustainable resources such as bamboo and cork. Along with his wide selection of carpeting and hardwood flooring, Charvat offers a broad range of area rugs, many imported from weavers in India and Egypt.
Located next door to the Vintage House and across the street from the ball field, Carneros Flooring‘s light-filled showroom is ideal for browsing. “Everyone is welcome to come in and just look through the showroom. Some customers are walking the dog and they stop in. We’re dog-friendly,” laughs Charvat.
Carneros Flooring is at 254 First Street East. Store hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 707.939.1010 for information.
