“Measure E for Everybody” ... That’s how the editorial board at the Sonoma Valley Sun had characterized this ballot measure a month ago, in its column dated October 4, 2007.
The idea was two-fold: everybody is affected by our local public school system, directly or indirectly, and everybody has a vote in whether a new, local funding source will be established.
Measure E would institute a $91 annual tax on all real estate parcels for the next six years. That calculates to less than 25¢ per day, and the funds would, according the text, “(a) restore cuts made in the District budget including, but not limited to, reductions in personnel; (b) library services; (c) vocational and career programs; (d) technology support; (e) college preparatory programs; (f) basic academic programs; and (g) recruiting and retention of highly qualified teachers.”
Over half of the ballots are reported to have been returned already, by mail, but
polls will stay open until 8 PM today, for those who haven’t voted yet:
