Swimming Pool Meeting Tuesday & Football Playoffs Saturday

The Dragons Boys and Girls Water Polo teams finished their seasons last month, with the boys varsity participating in a tournament in Ukiah that also included league teams from Marin Academy and Cardinal Newman. Under first-year coach Sean Mullen, the Sonoma teams made tremendous strides in individual skills and team play. Captains Andrew Campion and Danielle Juricich are graduating, but many young players will be returning for next season.
Sonoma has not had its own pool since 2005, when its old pool was removed. On Tuesday night, the School Board will hear the results of the Feasibility Study for the proposed Sonoma Community Swim Center, to be sited next to the high school’s tennis courts. The hearing starts at 7:30 PM at the District Office – all interested students and parents should attend.
The Dragons Varsity Football team plays again on Saturday, in the North Coast Section championship playoffs. Eight teams were invited in Class 3A, and as the fourth seed, Sonoma will host the fifth seed Vikings from Montgomery High in Santa Rosa.
Sonoma’s record in the Sonoma County League is 4-3-0, and Montgomery’s record in the North Bay League is 5-2-0. While the Vikings are coming into the playoffs with a three-game win streak, the Dragons beat the Vikings 12-3 in preseason play in September, here at Arnold Field, so the Dragons have high hopes for a first-round victory. The winner of this game will face #8 seed Redwood High School from Larkspur (6-2-0 in Marin County League) or #1 seed Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa (7-0-0 in North Bay League); those two teams play Friday night.
