Local Girl Scouts joined with scouts of Northern California to donate an impressive 109 cases of cookies this past season – that’s 1308 boxes.
During annual cookie sales when people say they don’t eat sweets for dietary reasons, the girls often suggest a donation instead to provide cookies to local food pantries or military. Called the “Gift of Caring Program,” this is a donation opportunity that allow buyers to still support the local Girl Scouts while watching their waistlines and doing good for others.
Sonoma Valley Girl Scouts selected to donate the 100-plus cases of cookies to the St. Francis Food Pantry, FISH, La Luz Food Pantry and the American Legion. Local Scouts delivered the cookies around town recently and saw first-hand what an impact they would have on those who need a little cheer in their lives. The American Legion will ship the donated cookies to Afghanistan to be served to wounded warriors at the hospital at Bagram Air Base. Girl Scout troops are currently designing get-well cards to accompany the cookies in the care packages shipped abroad.
